Timaru South School’s year 8 pupils will have one more reason to leave school with a smile on their faces.  The 40 students will be receiving leaving presents from funds raised from the school’s first non-traditional hangi.  The hangi was prepared on Thursday in a multi kai cooker by members of the school’s home and school committee.  Committee member Vaughan Hill said the cooker was used for health and safety reasons.  “Some people don’t look too kindly on food being cooked in the ground so we decided to use the cooker,” Hill said. “It also served a practical purpose in the sense it was fast and easy for the number of meals we had to cook.”
